God bless voice actors! Thanks to a recent mishap by voice actor Matthew Porretta, we now know the release month of Alan Wake 2. In a recent Monster Madness and Magic podcast, Porretta revealed that the much-anticipated sequel will launch in October. You can hear him say that yourself at the 18-minute mark.
The voice actor didn't provide an exact date, but given that the game's several months away, we are sure even the developer doesn't know that. Launching Alan Wake 2 in October is great timing as that's when all the Halloween craze begins.
Genre, Platform, and Exclusivity
Remedy has claimed previously that the sequel is a survival horror and not an action adventure like the original game. The original Alan Wake did have some horror elements but it was mostly an action game.
Alan Wake 2 is a next-gen-only title, meaning exclusive to PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5. Older-gen consoles will be sitting this one out, and the PC version will also be exclusive to Epic Games Store. The duration of store exclusivity, temporary or permanent, remains uncertain at this time. However, considering the publisher is Epic Games, it is likely that the exclusivity will be long-term and this may upset many Steam hardliners.
About the Game
The original Alan Wake game, released in 2010, captivated players with its riveting storyline and unique atmosphere, leading to a devoted following. Fans have been patiently waiting for a sequel, and Porretta's confirmation has finally given them something to celebrate.
While exact details about the game's storyline and gameplay mechanics are still unknown, fans can expect to continue the adventure of Alan Wake in a thrilling atmosphere that made the original game a success. Remedy Entertainment is known for its storytelling, and the return of Matthew Porretta as the voice actor suggests that they are dedicated to staying true to the essence of the original game.
Other Games
Alan Wake 2 isn't the only major title the developer is working on. Remedy is also focused on remakes of both Max Payne 1 and 2, along with a full-fledged sequel to Control. The devs will be quite busy for the next several years.
