If you've had a Bloodhound on your team in a game of Apex Legends, you might already know how effective this Legend can be. Bloodhound comes packed with a selection of unique abilities that helps the Legend track down enemies and establish positional awareness. Before Season 3, Bloodhound was mainly used as a recon specialist, but with Crypto entering Apex battles, the hunter's job of surveying locations was dramatically brought down. Recently, Bloodhound also received a massive buff that allows players to scan a large section of the area, making the Legend a lethal character in the right hands.
To help you play this Legend most effectively, we have put together this guide that focuses on Bloodhound's abilities, playstyles, and a few other tips to dominate your enemies.
Apex Legends Bloodhound Guide
Before we talk about the Legend's abilities, let us take a look at Bloodhound's strengths and weaknesses.
Bloodhound's tactical ability allows players to highlight enemies, encouraging them to push enemies aggressively or take a defensive stance, depending on their playstyle and situation. In addition to Bloodhound's ability to highlight enemies, the Legend can also gain valuable information on an enemy's whereabouts. This ability alone makes Bloodhound a great character for both newcomers and experienced players that are looking to raise their killstreak.
When activating the tactical or ultimate ability, Bloodhound can highlight and see enemies through vision-obscuring situations like Bangalore's smoke grenades or Caustic's Noxious gas. So, a team comprising of Bloodhound, Bangalore, and Caustic can actually turn out to be a lethal combination.
Talking about Bloodhound's weakness, when stuck in a difficult situation, players can only rely on the Legend's Ultimate ability, which grants the Legend extra movement speed. Additionally, highlighting enemies using the tactical ability can also give away your team's position as enemies will instantly know that a Bloodhound is nearby, making your enemies extra alert.
Bloodhound Abilities
Bloodhound's abilities are focused around helping players locate and hunt down enemies. Let us now take a look at Bloodhound's abilities and how to use them most effectively.
Passive Ability: Tracker
Passive abilities in Apex Legends are always on by default and you don't have to do anything to activate them. Bloodhound's passive is called Tracker, which gives players information on enemy activities. Bloodhound can detect the presence of an enemy for up to 90 seconds. The Legend gets a notification that can be shared with teammates. This information can be used to track down enemies and ambush them, or to plan up a strategy.
Bloodhound's passive ability is able to detect the following information: Use Door, Destroy Door, Class Deployable, Death, Killer, Heal, Reload, Bleedout, Took Damage, Fire Bullet, Throw Grenade, Opened Supply Drop, Opened Loot Bin, Zipline Start, Zipline Stop, Footprint, Slide, Mantle, Jump, Wraith Tactical Start, Wraith Tactical End, Smoke, Gas, Pickup Loot, Drop Loot, Caustic Trap, Lifeline Bot, Gibraltar Shield, and Wraith Ultimate. All of these findings can be communicated with your teammates, as they cannot see what a Bloodhound player can see.
In addition to that, pinging these findings doesn't tell your teammate as to how long ago an enemy was present there. However, you can share this information via voice chat or text chat.
Tactical Ability: Eye of the Allfather
Bloodhound's tactical ability is called Eye of the Allfather, which sends out a conical scan and locates any enemies that are present within the scan's field. The radar pulse can scan through walls and any other obstacles, highlighting enemies and their traps.
However, you must also be aware that when using Bloodhound's tactical, enemies can also see where the pulse is radiating from and also hear a distinct sound. An experienced player scanned by a Bloodhound pulse will easily know your approximate position. Stay away from using this ability when you are trying to heal up or hide from enemies.
Useful Tips
- Bloodhound's Eye of the Allfather only radiates only in a canonical radius, therefore you must be careful as to where you are facing when initiating the scan.
- If you're playing defensively, refrain from using Bloodhound's tactical, unless you have an upper hand in the fight or when you have no other choice.
- Bloodhound's tactical ability also allows you to spot enemies through Bangalore's smokes, Caustic's Noxious gas and buildings.
- If you've got a Banglore or Caustic on your team, you can combine your passive when enemies are disoriented from Bangalore's smokes or Caustic's gas.
- The Eye of the Allfather has a 35 seconds cool down before using it again.
Ultimate Ability: Beast of the Hunt
Bloodhound's ultimate ability is called Beast of the Hunt. This ability is meant to be used before jumping into a firefight. However, one can also use this ability to disengage from a fight and find cover. When Bloodhound activates the Beast of the Hunt, the Legend gains a momentary 30% speed boost and an increased perception in sight and sound for 35 seconds.
Once Bloodhound activates the Ultimate ability, the Legend can see through both Bangalore's smoke and Caustic's Noxious gas. Anyone retreating from you will definitely have a tough time making out safe. In addition to gaining a speed advantage, Bloodhound can also strafe pretty effectively during the Beast of the Hunt, allowing players to dodge bullets, particularly at close range.
Useful Tips
- As of Season 4, Bloodhound will gain an additional five seconds to Beast of the Hunt mode when the legend downs or kills enemies while the ultimate ability is active.
- When the Beast of the Hunt mode is active, your screen turns grey and enemies are highlighted in red.
- It is always advisable that the ultimate ability is used when you're heading into a fight. It doesn't really help very much when you choose to evade enemies. However, if you find the opportunity to use your ultimate ability mid-fight, you can use it to evade enemies and reposition.
- The Beast of the Hunt allows Bloodhound to see clues very clearly, much clearer than when using the tactical ability.
- With the ultimate ability activated, Bloodhound can strafe very aggressively allowing you to dodge bullets and take down enemies.
- Most experienced Bloodhound players will capitalize on their enemies when activating the ultimate ability. Using the ultimate ability to close the gap or flank enemies is a great tactic.
Bloodhound Strategies and Tactics
Let's wrap this Bloodhound guide up with some strategies and tactics that you can use to make this Legend shine on the battlefield:
- Although you can play Bloodhound defensively, the Legend shines when played aggressively. If you're new to Apex Legends, you don't want to tread on the same path that an enemy had taken a few seconds ago. However, we encourage you to turn your aggressive switches on and hunt down your enemies. This not only allows you to become more aggressive, but also more confident in taking fights.
- Whenever you find a clue, make sure that you communicate it with your squadmates. This information can be vital and allow your team to strategize an attacking or defensive plan.
- If you're having a tough time initiating fights in Apex Legends, Bloodhound can force you to become bold and call for decisive plays. Even though you can poke at your enemies with a Sentinel from range, Apex Legends is mostly dominated by CCQ fights and this is where Bloodhound shines the most. As a Bloodhound player, you can act as a point person for your team and relay crucial information to your squadmates, preparing yourself for the dangers ahead.
- When stuck in a battle, don't be afraid to use either your tactical or ultimate ability. Your squad always wants an upper hand in the battle and when enemies know that they have been scanned by a Bloodhound, it naturally makes them nervous, which is the opening that your team always wants.
- If you've got a friend that plays Apex Legends, ask them to pick Bangalore. Combining Bangalore and Bloodhound can make your team very lethal to fight against. Ask your Bangalore to smoke off enemies and then you can activate your Ultimate ability to hunt down your prey lost in the smoke.
This is all you need to know about Bloodhound before jumping into your next Ranked match in Apex Legends. Personally, I really like playing this Legend and I must tell you that Bloodhound is very fun to play when you take an aggressive stance rather than getting defensive.
