Apex Legends is a popular and successful battle royale across PC, Xbox One, and PS4. Earlier this year, we also learned that the game will be releasing on Nintendo Switch along with a cross-play feature, allowing the entire community to play together.
These new additions could attract more players to Apex Legends, and the game's arrival on Switch has also made many Switch users happy. Currently, switching to a different platform requires players to start Apex Legends all over again, losing all progress they had made on other platforms. However, that could soon be changing.
When Apex Legends launched in February 2019, players requested the developer to enable cross-progression. At that time, Respawn stated that bringing cross-progression to the game was not feasible. Now, however, a dataminer seems to have discovered some evidence that points towards cross-progression coming to the game shortly. Shrugtal, a reputable dataminer for Apex Legends, stated that some game files contain code that lines up with a cross-progression system.
According to Shrugtal, the listed code strings, when implemented within the game, can help in transferring character skins, weapon skins, and weapon charms. Basically, what this means is that players can easily switch platforms without losing progression.
While this is exciting news for players who would love to switch platforms, this information isn't coming from official sources. Essentially, the feature is being tested by the devs at Respawn and it could be possible that the feature may not even make it to the main game.
If cross-progression becomes available, Respawn would definitely like it to coincide with cross-play, which is expected to launch soon. According to certain reputable sources, the game will also be launching on Steam and Nintendo Switch during Fall 2020.
