Apex Legends is set to have its first ever international championships. The Apex Legends Preseason Invitational is scheduled for September 13 to 15 in Krakow, Poland. Organized by Respawn Entertainment in partnership with Electronic Arts, the tournament is going to have 80 teams fight it out for a large share of the $500,000 prize pool.
The point distribution of the tournament is similar to the one used during the X Games. That is, each elimination gives the team one point. Placement points are also given, with the first place team earning 12 Points, down to the 16th to 20th place teams, who get no points at all.
All 80 teams start in the winners bracket and the tournament follows a double elimination format. After each round, the performance of the team determines whether they continue in the winners bracket, go down to the losers bracket, or get eliminated. The format is followed until the final 20 teams are determined.
In a statement, Apex Legends Design Director Chad Grenier revealed that at the heart of Apex Legends is competition and that this tournament hopes to highlight the game at its highest level. He went on to say that this tournament "advances our vision towards a robust competitive experience with the community at the center. We continue to explore all the entertaining ways both players and spectators can experience Apex Legends and look forward to bringing this event to life.”
Meanwhile, SVP and GM of the EA Competitive Gaming Division Todd Sitrin shared that when they "started the EA Competitive Gaming Division, we had a vision to Make Stars of All Our Players as we build an entertainment spectacle that captivates millions of players and spectators." The addition of Apex Legends expands EA Competitive Gaming, he added.

Apex Legends delivers a squad-based battle royale game where players select from one of ten Legends , each with their own unique abilities and playstyles. Like other games in the genre, the last team standing wins. Developed by Respawn Entertainment, the game has players choose from a number of unique characters like Lifeline, Wraith, or Bloodhound, among others. Aside from teamwork, players need to come up with a blanced squad in order to win.
