On the surface, Arsenal seems to be another generic hyper-violent crime movie, but for Nicolas Cage fans like myself it offers far sweeter pleasures. The film stars Entourage’s Adrien Grenier as a small time crook who gets caught up with a eccentric, unpredictable crime boss. Predictably Cage will be playing the eccentric unpredictable crime boss. What is interesting is that the crime boss is actually a character Cage has played before, in the 1993 film Deadfall.
Deadfall, directed by Cage’s brother Christopher Coppola, was a bad movie blessed with Cage caging harder for his brother than he does for almost anyone. Fan’s of the many YouYube compilations of Cage freakouts will certainly know some key moments from the film. Below is the crown jewel scene complete with NSFW language and offensive word choice.
What’s interesting is Cage’s character Eddie does not survive the runtime of Deadfall, so Arsenal must be set earlier even though Cage is 23 years older. All in all, it seems like a pretty smart move by director Steven C. Miller as I would guess the amount of people seeing this film for any other reason number in the dozens.
