The latest Assassin’s Creed movie teaser revealed a few Easter Eggs fans of the franchise will be sure to love. Let’s hope Ubisoft and 20th Century Fox did right by the video game adaptation.
Assassin’s Creed fans are well aware of the clusterfuck that is the game’s plot lines. We don’t know what’s going on in the Modern Day era of the game, but this plays well for 20th Century Fox. No one ever really cared about Desmond Miles trying to save the world. The interesting parts of Assassin’s Creed were always the historical elements weaved into the fantasy world. Seeing famous figures like Benjamin Franklin, Leonardo DaVinci, Blackbeard, etc. is what fans live for in the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
The other interesting part is the story of Adam and Eve from the First Civilization. In the Assassin’s Creed game, the First Civilization or the “Isu” were highly advanced species of humans. The Isu created humans, who were basically too stupid to understand what they were. So the Isu became known as “Gods.” Eventually Eve, a Human-Isu hybrid, led a rebellion against the Isu that lead to creation of the Pieces of Eden. We see a Piece of Eden in the latest teaser.
"We're really determined to make an audience believe that this world and these characters exist," Director Justin Kurzel said in the teaser. "I want it to be an unbelievable ride mixed with these exotic worlds that then lead you into some action sequences that are really dynamic."
We know we’re oversimplifying the complex back history of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, but seeing the good parts of the video game’s lore is a great sign for fans. Ubisoft has always had an interesting concept in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, so hopefully a movie version of the game helps to flesh out some of the missed opportunities with its story.
If the movie can take pieces like the Apple of Eden and create a backstory for the First Civilization that makes sense, this movie might actually be pretty good. Check out the Assassin’s Creed teaser below. Assassin’s Creed hits theaters Dec. 21.
