Almost five years since the release of the original game, reports are now talking about the next steps for CD Projekt Red's "Cyberpunk 2077" franchise, and new job listings may have revealed what is happening next.
"Cyberpunk 2077" is getting a sequel from CD Projekt Red, but the biggest thing may be coming for this sequel is a multiplayer feature.
Originally, the first game was supposed to feature a dedicated online multiplayer experience for fans that would come in the form of a DLC, but that was eventually scrapped due to the poor reception of the base game.
'Cyberpunk 2077' Sequel to Feature a Multiplayer Experience
GameRant shared a report after a discovery of new job listings on the company's careers website page, which state that it is now looking for new developers to help the team create the next installment of "Cyberpunk 2077."
However, it will not be the same as the current game as the sequel will reportedly feature a new multiplayer experience once it arrives.
CD Projekt Red is now searching for developers who have been part of teams or were able to create "multiplayer experiences" before. While the company has not yet officially unveiled that this is for "Cyberpunk 2077's" sequel, the listings revealed that it would be for Project Orion, which is being speculated to be for the sequel.
Moreover, these additional job openings for developers would join the already ongoing development of Project Orion over at CD Projekt Red's office in the United States, particularly in Boston. It has already been three years since Project Orion was announced, but it was only last year when CD Projekt Red began on the active development of the anticipated game.
Since 2024's last quarter until 2025's first quarter, CD Projekt Red has welcomed more developers to be part of the team, with a great chunk of them being assigned to work on Project Orion, and the company is still adding more.
CD Projekt Red's Job Listing Hint on Sequel Plans
Because of the job listings from CD Projekt Red, the world is now getting an idea of what to expect from the future "Cyberpunk 2077" game as it moves forward from its previous state. It is known that the original game was not very well received when it launched in the market, with many being quick to fire criticisms against it, especially as it has been one of the most anticipated modern games.
That being said, CD Projekt Red redeemed themselves with the "Phantom Liberty" expansion, which the company refers to as how they intended the "Cyberpunk" game to be when it first arrived.
However, both experiences are known for focusing on a single-player gameplay, which revolved mostly around its plot and story, while allowing players to explore more of Midnight City and other locations in its open world-esque experience.
