Assassin's Creed Odyssey is launching its latest open-world museum mode with Discovery Tour: Ancient Greece. Like the Discovery Tour: Ancient Egypt found in Assassin's Creed Origins, this version takes the landscape of Assassin's Creed Odyssey and turns it into an open-world museum of Greek history and culture that is conflict-free. This is available as a free update for Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or as a standalone purchase on PC through Uplay. This mode officially launches September 10.
The Discovery Tour mode of Assassin's Creed was initially developed as an educational tool for teachers, though this mode is open to anyone. In Discovery Tour: Ancient Greece, you get the chance to go into the past and discover more about Ancient Greece. Learn all about the philosophy, myths, conflicts, art, cities, and daily life of the people of Greece.
There are a total of 30 different tours which you can fast-travel directly to. However, if you want to take it slow, you can discover everything organically by running or riding across the landscape. The landscape has been divided into narrated stations that fit their surroundings and are often accompanied by paintings or photos of artifacts.
You can visit the ivory-and-gold statue of Athena that is inside the Parthenon and learn why its immense cost was justified as a way of storing gold for emergencies. You also get to discover that the pool in the statue's chamber was a way of regulating humidity and keeping the ivory from cracking.
To help keep you on track, you are guided from station to station with an illuminated path that goes through each exhibit. While there are off-screen narrators available, you are guided on each tour by either Leonidas, Aspasia, Herodotos, Markos, or Barnabas. They greet you at the start of each tour and at the end reappear in order to give you a quiz on what you have learned so far.
In exploring the world, you have a choice of six different avatars. As you complete tours and find Discovery sites, you get to unlock 29 more avatars. You can even unlock up to 15 different mounts that include a unicorn, the winged Pegasus, and the fiery Abraxas.
Discovery Tour: Ancient Greece officially launches on September 10. It is going to be a free update for Assassin's Creed Odyssey on PS4, Xbox One, or PC. In addition, it is offered as a standalone purchase on PC via Uplay.
