Start adding FX back to your cable subscriptions. Atlanta series star Lakeith Stanfield is teasing fans with a possible Atlanta Season 2 release on Instagram. On Sunday evening, a post featuring the full Atlanta cast donning matching jackets stated, “Don’t Call it Season 2. Tis ‘Robbin Season’...Feb. 2018.” However, the post has since been edited many times.
Fans on Twitter caught the post changing from February 2018 to April, December, then January 2019 ... and now, no date at all. Unfortunately for Stanfield, the edits came too late. Twitter was convinced the highly anticipated second season was dropping in February and were angry to find out the continuation wouldn’t arrive in the same month as Black Panther.
Production for Atlanta Season 2 was delayed due to series star/creator Donald Glover’s role as Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story. The good news is Glover signed an overall deal with FX, which includes an animated Deadpool series. We’ll also hear him voice Simba in the Lion King, slated to release in 2019.
While Stanfield’s Instagram post doesn’t detail why the cast is together again, a similar photo posted to Brian Tyree Henry’s account suggests filming on Season 2 has wrapped. Though, at this point, it’s best to just wait until FX clears up these release date rumors before Atlanta fans go crazy.
The Atlanta Season 1 finale, “The Jacket,” left on a somber note. Glover’s character, Earn, witnessed the cops brutally shoot and kill a man who happened to steal his blue bomber jacket. We also learned Earn has been sleeping in a storage facility when he’s not staying with Van, Paperboi or some other random person. There’s still so much to learn about Earn’s life heading into Season 2.
