First of all, Atlanta Season 2 releases March 1, and that’s so close that I might have an anxiety attack. Second, the new season is called Atlanta Robbin’ Season …???? And that’s all FX said in the press release. Thursdays at 10 p.m. EST people, get ready.
Lakeith Stanfield actually revealed the new title on his Instagram account last month when he wrote “Feb. 2018” then kept increasing the date all the way until Jan. 2019, causing a flurry of confusion on Twitter. “Don’t call it Season 2,” Stanfield wrote. “Tis Robbin’ Season.”
We don’t know exactly why Glover decided to call it “Robbin Season,” but considering Season 2 is expected to be even greater than the first, the title seems appropriate. Also, it’s worth noting there’s a song called “Robbin’ Season” by Migos affiliate Shy Glizzy out of Washington, D.C. If you watched Season 1, you know what Atlanta did to bring “Bad and Boujee” into the culture. Glover is influenced by music in everything he does so we can’t put this connection past him.
If you haven’t figured it out already, Donald Glover is a Wizard. Atlanta Season 2 was not expected to come so soon. Dude just finished filming Star Wars: A Solo Story where he’ll play Lando Calrissian, The Lion King where he’ll voice Simba and finished a small but instrumental role in Spider-Man: Homecoming. He’s also currently working on a Deadpool animated series for FX. Although redundant for anyone whose watched the show, here’s the description of Robbin Season from the press release.
In Atlanta Robbin’ Season , two cousins work through the Atlanta music scene in order to better their lives and the lives of their families. “Earn Marks” (Donald Glover) is a young manager trying to get his cousin’s career off the ground. “Alfred Miles” (Brian Tyree Henry) is a new hot rapper trying to understand the line between real life and street life. “Darius” (Lakeith Lee Stanfield) is Alfred’s right-hand man and visionary. “Van” (Zazie Beetz) is Earn’s best friend and the mother of Earn’s daughter. Donald Glover serves as Executive Producer, along with Paul Simms, Dianne McGunigle and Stephen Glover.
There’s a lot to learn about Earn in Season 2, including more about why he’s living in a storage facility when he’s not staying with Van or Paperboi. And what exactly happened to him between college and going back to Atlanta?
