Activision and Treyarch just dropped a brand-new trailer for their popular FPS Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s upcoming new update called “Operation Apocalypse Z Blackout”. It’s got everything that fans of the franchise could ever need: a kick-ass soundtrack, lots of blood and gore and a celebrity appearance by heavy metal icon M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold.
By the way, let me rephrase myself. It’s not going to be just any celebrity appearance. The Avenged Sevenfold singer will be getting his own playable character as confirmed by M. Shadows himself during a Treyarch livestream. Being a long-time fan of the franchise and an admitted gaming nerd, the frontman says that getting his own playable character is a “career highlight” of its own. Aside from M. Shadows, we also saw a brief glimpse of what looked like Danny Trejo in the trailer. Whether he’s a playable character or not is still unknown, but I’m crossing my fingers!
The almost three-minute trailer showcased some gameplay mechanics we can expect for Operation Apocalypse Z Blackout. It’s still probably going to stick to its battle royale roots, just with added zombies. Interesting elements that could possibly come to the game include the blackout mechanic. I’m assuming its going to be similar to battle royale staples such as the circle of death that gets smaller periodically. Also, towards the end of the trailer, we saw an enormous robot-human hybrid with a giant machine gun. Maybe there will be a random mechanic that a player can get those sweet, sweet upgrades from, depending on their standing in-game.
It hasn’t been the first time that the iconic band has collaborated with the storied franchise. Avenged Sevenfold has composed multiple songs such as “Not Ready to Die” for Call of Duty Black Ops’ “Call of the Dead” zombie map, “Carry On” was a song in the post-credits cutscene for Black Ops II and most recently in 2018 their song “Mad Hatter” was found on the “IX” zombie map for Black Ops 4.
Operation Apocalypse Z Blackout was launched on July 9 for the PlayStation 4 and its release for other platforms will be announced at a later date.
