Sony is yet again increasing the price of PlayStation Plus in 16 Latin American nations, the second big jump within just 18 months. Starting April 16, the price hike will differ according to the subscription level, with rises between 8.34% to 21.43%.
PlayStation Plus Price Hike Impacts Latin American Subscribers
It was back in September 2023 when Sony introduced a price rise for PS Plus worldwide across every level—Essential, Extra, and Premium. Now, a more localized rise is being implemented solely in Latin America, where many countries have been experiencing high levels of inflation.
According to the PlayStation blog (Portuguese), it impacts subscribers in
Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay.
Inflation Pushing Gaming Prices Up
One of the main reasons for this price increase is regional inflation. Most of these countries have been struggling with economic instability. For instance, Brazil's inflation rate was 5.06% in early 2025, lower than 9.28% in 2022, but higher than target levels.
Argentina had a shocking inflation rate of 211.4% in 2023 and still stands at 66.9% in January 2025.
Outside the PlayStation ecosystem, these price hikes are also affecting digital stores and game publishers.
Sony's Justification for the PS Plus Price Increase
GameBible reports that Sony is attributing the price increase to unfavorable "global market conditions," the same reason used at the previous global price adjustment in 2023.
For the gaming giant, the adjustment will enable them to sustain game and add-on quality as well as benefits given to subscribers.
Though the explanation can sound like a copy-paste rationalization, Sony's financial report indicates the effects of the shifts. In November 2024, the company posted an 18% increase in PlayStation Plus revenue from last year.
Still, Sony also ceased to report subscriber count numbers, which may indicate a slowdown or even a decrease due to increased expenses.
What Subscribers Should Expect on April 16
From April 16, Latin American players will see the new prices in their PS Plus renewals or upgrades. The PS Plus Essential subscription for a month will be $7.99. For three months, it will cost $20.99, while a 12-month plan will be $64.99.
For PS Plus Extra subscribers, the updated pricing is $11.99 for the monthly plan. The three-month plan is now $33.99, while the 12-month subscription costs $39.99.
For those who want PS Plus Premium, prepare $13.99 for a one-month subscription. If you want to extend it to three months, you will pay $39.99. Finally, a year-round plan will cost $124.99.
