Meta Quest 3 XR Headsets Are Coming to Airlines After Rousing Success with Lufthansa

Quest 3 for airlines may be coming soon.

Meta and Lufthansa's recent partnership has earned both companies praise as the Quest 3's capabilities became available during flights.

This was made possible thanks to the "Travel Mode" feature of the Meta Quest 3 headset, which allows users to take advantage of its virtual and augmented reality features despite traveling.

Meta Quest 3 XR Headset Are Coming to Planes

GameRant shared a report which details the recent success that Meta and Lufthansa saw, and the report stated that Meta is now considering expanding the Quest 3 headset's the other airlines.

This will help airlines offer a different in-flight entertainment experience apart from the headrest screens that show movies, shows, games, and more. Instead of the traditional media experience, Meta will leverage its Quest 3 as the go-to in-flight entertainment for airlines and bring a more immersive approach to their on-air experiences.

While there are still no concrete plans from Meta, the possibility of having a VR or mixed-reality headset serve as the in-flight entertainment for passengers would open massive opportunities for the company. It will introduce the XR headset to more users that could boost its adoption rate and sales, and it could also push other airlines to offer the unique experience.

Meta and Lufthansa's Success with Quest 3

This started with the massive partnership between Meta and Lufthansa when the global aviation corporation decided to offer the Quest 3 headsets and its experiences to flyers of selected flights. According to the Jetsetter Guide, Björn Becker of the Lufthansa Group shared that users had "overwhelmingly positive" responses to the Quest 3 in-flight experiences on their flights.

Both Meta and Lufthansa are celebrating this milestone, with the German aviation group and developer, MSM.digital, recently receiving the 2025 APEX award for Best Inflight Entertainment. This was made possible thanks to Meta's development of the Travel Mode for the Quest headsets that the company introduced in 2024, which allowed users to enjoy the immersive experience while on a moving vehicle.

According to the report, Lufthansa offered Quest 3 mixed reality headsets to passengers in its Allegris Business Class Suite, but it is not as of writing if they will soon offer it to other classes like economy.
