It’s been a long four months since Batman asked Catwoman to marry him, and now Selina Kyle’s answer will finally be revealed in DC Comics ’ Batman #32 (out on Oct. 4).
In an USA Today exclusive look and interview with writer Tom King, fans get to see the panels leading to Catwoman’s answer to Bruce Wayne popping the question.
SPOILER ALERT! The following will spoil the events of Batman #32. Proceed with caution.
The conversation shakes out like this. Bruce and Selina are speaking when he tells her about the time when he almost stabbed The Riddler but The Joker (of all people) had to stop him from breaking his cardinal rule against killing.
The incident stuck with him and Bruce felt Selina needed to know about it before she made her decision. Catwoman goes on to explain that all of their sins, “earned tragedies” and the pain from those sins can’t compare to the love they have for each other. She then says yes to his proposal.
“That to me is what true love is,” King told USA Today. “It’s showing who you truly are to someone. It’s letting someone know deep down who you are and that’s horribly frightening and it scares Batman as much as anything ever has.”
Catwoman accepting Batman’s proposal is a big deal, as this will change the status quo of of the character in a way that hasn’t been seen in the comic’s 78-year history.
The storyline that follows this issue is called “Rule of Engagement,” which will affect those closest to Batman. This arc will explore the reactions of those in Batman’s life, including the Bat Family, Alfred, the Justice League and others in the superhero community.
