Battlefield 1’s first major expansion They Shall Not Pass is due out sometime in March, and like the Tommies in their trenches, we wait and wait. But there’s another large update in the works that we won’t have to wait nearly as long for. In a tweet, DICE announced in that the ‘Winter Update’ will be arriving next week.
While they didn’t release any information on what the update would contain, let’s not forget the ‘Fall Update’ included a dramatic expansion of the Suez map and major adjustments to Operations Mode.
We do have some very solid clues into what next week’s ‘Winter Update’ will contain. DICE recently launched public test servers, allowing users to try out new tweaks and features. A recent substantial update to the test serves gives us what are most likely the changes to come next week in the ‘Winter Update.’ Below are a few of the big ones:
Ribbons
Ribbons are a new collectable item designed around promoting good team play - an essential skill in Battlefield. Each ribbon will net you 500 XP, so it pays to play for your team.
Increased Max Class Ranks
The new max class rank is 50. When you reach it, you will get some new gear to show how much time you’ve sunk fighting the Great War.
Elite Codices
If you get 500 kills with a single primary weapon, you will unlock an Elite Codex for it. And beyond being a collectable item, you will get 25000 XP for unlocking it. This extra XP will be key given the aforementioned new class rank limits.
Map Vote
A new feature allows you to vote on the next map in a Server. This will be done between matches and won’t add any time to the match.
Beyond that, there are a bunch of smaller updates and tweaks that you can read about here.
We’ll give you more details when the patch hits sometime next week.
