The Bayonetta 2 + Bayonetta 1 bundle just debuted on the Nintendo Switch as official re-releases for the console, but some players were in for a rude awakening when they tried to activate their codes for the original game.
While Bayonetta 2 was made available to Western gamers with a physical copy, Bayonetta 1 was only available with the game here as a digital download code, unlike the swanky special edition set available in Japan. And when Bayonetta 2 + Bayonetta 1 buyers cracked open the game and entered the play code to install Bayonetta 1, they reportedly received an unusual error message.
Fans took to Reddit with news of the errors, and some began calling into Nintendo Support to receive new codes via email. Eventually, the official Nintendo Twitter account acknowledged that there had been an issue on Friday night. The tweet instructs users to visit the official Nintendo support page for assistance and apologizes for the widespread problems, which appear at the very least resolve it for those who take action and contact the company.
There doesn't seem to be a specific retailer selling the games with faulty codes, as they're widespread from various different stores. It can take a while, as buyers have reported, to get new codes, but it sure beats being totally out of luck.
Bayonetta originally released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 back in 2010, with a Bayonetta 2 Wii U release on 2014. The original Bayonetta was made available on Wii U as well, but it seemed as the console languished, the series' future faced a dead-end. Fortunately, Bayonetta 3 was announced during The Game Awards 2017 in December as a Nintendo Switch exclusive title. The aforementioned Bayonetta 2 and digital version of Bayonetta was announced at that time as well.
If you grabbed a copy of Bayonetta 2 and tried to redeem your code for the first game, was it smooth sailing for you or did you run into issues? Let us know in the comments below.
