New promos for Better Call Saul Season 2 Episode 2 make one thing abundantly clear: that season premiere ending was no dream.

The first season of Better Call Saul ends with Jimmy McGill driving off into a rebellious, Saul Goodman-like future, promising to himself and to Mike that he’d never again let scruples or the law get in the way of his personal profit. In the Season 2 premiere, Jimmy is living the dream. It just turns out “the dream” involves lounging around a fancy hotel pool and scamming assholes for drinks and bar snacks.

But sometimes life hands you a do-over. The end of the Better Call Saul season premiere finds Jimmy returning to the law firm of Davis & Main and asking for the job he had just recently turned down. His entrance into the high life of the law firm is a slow-motion montage of handshakes, back-pats and perks so outrageous it’s hard to believe Jimmy could ever be so lucky. Jimmy’s new employers lavish him with a corporate car, customized wall art, and desk wood of his choice (cocobolo, baby!). So what if there’s that weird mystery switch in his office and so what if it feels more like a literary device than a reality… things are looking up for Jimmy!

Unless it was a dream.

What a relief, then, to see the sneak peek for Monday night’s episode. Jimmy swaps out his old car and finally ditches the nail salon. The perfect new job isn’t a dream at all! It’s real:

But it’s not happily ever after for Jimmy McGill. Mike- and Chuck-shaped stormclouds lurk on the horizon. Is Jimmy being granted everything he’s ever wanted, only to have it torn away?

It wouldn’t be Better Call Saul without the sense of waiting for the other shoe to drop.

We’ll see how long Jimmy can ride the high horse when the second episode of Better Call Saul Season 2 airs on AMC Monday night at 10.
