The Bleach manga has had many ups and downs, and the long-running story of a boy who becomes a shinigami has reached its final chapter after 15 years.
One of the three pillars of another gold era for Shonen Jump (the others being Naruto and One Piece ), Bleach is ready to shed some light into the final moments of the battle between Ichigo and the Quincy King, Ywach, and what has happened in the 10 years since.
In the penultimate chapter, we saw Rukia become one of the new captains of the Gotei 13, but something has drawn the interest of many of the captains. It seems that a remnant of Ywach’s power has shown up in Soul Society and they go to investigate.
And now, on to the recap of Bleach chapter 686.
SPOILER ALERT! The following is a recap of the final chapter of Bleach. If you don’t want to know what happens before its official release turn back now.
The chapter begins with a small, orange-haired boy who looks a lot like Ichigo. He’s in an alleyway when he’s chased off.
A few captains, including Byakuya, go to the scene of the disturbance. It seems that Rukia left after her coronation but her brother says she doesn’t need to be there to deal with this possible threat, since it’s been awhile since she had any downtime.
Captain Mayuri is already at the scene and he tells the others to just wait and see what is about to happen. The mass of Ywach’s power begins to take shape.
Back on Earth, Rukia and Renji stand in front of the Kurosaki Clinic. Ichigo answers the door and Rukia teases how empty it is. Ichigo states that his clinic is an emergency-only clinic: being empty is a good sign.
Tatsuki, Keigo and Mizuiro are all there as they greet Rukia. Ichigo’s sisters also appear all grown up as they greet Rukia.
Everyone has gathered at Ichigo’s to watch Chad, who has become a world famous boxer, in his next fight.
Elsewhere, Ishida is seen on the roof of a hospital. He has become a doctor, and is taking a break to watch Chad’s fight on his phone.
Ichigo calls for Orihime who appears in an apron. Ichigo asks where Kazui is, and she reveals Tsubaki told her that he was spotted at Hiyori’s place.
Ichigo then looks at Rukia and Renji and wonders why they didn’t bring their kid this time. Rukia says their daughter has become a Gotei apprentice and tleft as well; she isn’t worried, because her daughter is a shinigami in a human’s world, so she won’t be in trouble.
Ichigo chastizes Rukia about her attitude and says to go find her.
The young boy from earlier looks at a black blob in an alley. In Soul Society, Ywach’s power looks to be attacking as the captains get ready to fight back. Suddenly, the boy puts his hand into the black blob, causing Ywach’s power in Soul Society to explode into nothingness.
Underneath Soul Society, Aizen is still imprisoned and senses Ywach’s power being destroyed as he thinks back to what happened 10 years earlier.
Ichigo’s final slash hits Ywach and the Quincy King begins to talk about how Ichigo has stopped the process of making a world with no fear. He also talks about how Soul Society, Earth and Hueco Mundo were all supposed to fuse into one, with no semblance of life or death.
And now everyone will have to live fearing death.
Aizen, however, sees it differently: a world without fear of death will not allow people to attain the power to hope and move forward in life, despite their fears.
Back in the young boy’s room, a warp hole appears and a red-haired little girl dressed as a shinigami pops out. She announces herself as Ichika Abarai and asks who the boy is.
The boy says that he is Kazui Kurosaki. The shinigami cloak appears on Kazui all of a sudden as he says that he’s sort of a shinigami too. Ichika looks on, surprised.
