Randy Pitchford, the founder of Gearbox Software, which is responsible for the development of the Borderlands franchise, teased new information regarding the upcoming game in the series.

The studio is now a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive after it was sold by Embracer Group last year. Despite the tease, Gearbox Software has not yet officially confirmed that the newest Borderlands game is on the way.

Next Borderlands Game

But Pitchford said that he had done a very bad job of hiding the fact that they were actually working on something. He also said that he thinks the community that loves the Borderlands franchise is going to be "very excited" in the near future.

The Gearbox Software founder continued by saying that he was using fuzzy words but reassured fans that they would be talking about what they have been working on very soon, according to Eurogamer.

Pitchford's remarks come as it has already been several years since the release of the latest Borderlands game. Also, the Borderlands live-action movie is set to premiere on Aug. 9, 2024, to bring the series' characters to life on the big screen.

The Gearbox Software founder also said that fans of the Borderlands franchise will not have to wait long before an announcement is made for the next game in the series.

He said that the studio plans to make a reveal before the end of the year or even sooner, said GamesRadar.

A Reveal Coming Soon

Borderlands 3, which is the last mainline entry in the series, was originally released in 2019 before getting multiple spin-offs in 2022. These include the narrative-driven New Tales from the Borderlands and the RPG, fantasy-themed Tiny Tina's Wonderland.

In particular, the latter has proven to be a massive hit among fans and the Gearbox Software founder hinted that there could be more of the spin-off in the future.

Pitchford said that they had a bigger result with the first Wonderlands game than they did with the first Borderlands game.

Pitchford's supposed reveal of a new Borderlands game is corroborated by the president of 2K games, David Ismailer, who said that the next installment in the series is in active development. However, exactly what it could feature is still a mystery for fans of the franchise.

Back when the live-action movie was revealed, many fans believed that an announcement of the latest game in the series would be announced on X, formerly known as Twitter.

This was during a Borderlands 2 recap video that was posted and ended with a trailer for the movie, according to GameRant.
