The new Ghostbusters are coming, whether you like it or not. The all-female cast of Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot came under scrutiny following the premiere of the film’s first trailer, but since then the marketing department has recovered with an improved international trailer and promotional tidbits here and there. Original Ghostbuster Dan Aykroyd even gave his blessing with an advanced review that could sway the views of loyal traditionalists.
That all being said, the stage is set for the new Ghostbusters to arrive in just over a month. Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon head a cast that we’ve seen plenty of throughout the trailers, but don’t actually know much about. Perhaps the key to repelling opposition against these new Ghostbusters is to introduce us to the characters themselves. Sony must have figured this out, as they’ve released four character vignettes that detail the personality of each cast member. It doesn’t hurt that a plethora of new footage is showcased throughout these character trailers as well. Take a look:
So, these are the women you’re gonna call. There’s Jillian Holtzmann (McKinnon), a master of paranormal tech and handler of proton packs; Erin Gilbert (Wiig), a Columbia professor on the cusp of tenure who loses everything after publishing a book in defense of paranormal activity; Abby Yates (McCarthy), who has believed in ghosts from the start and serves as the group’s motivational leader; and Patty Tolan (Jones), an employee of NYC’s Metropolitan Transport Authority who serves as a guide around the expansive city. It’s a solid collection of personalities, if I do say so myself.
