Doesn’t matter where you stand about President Trump, Broad City Season 4 episode 6 will have you in tears.
Show creators Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson released the episode during the Broad City Panel at San Diego Comic Con 2017. The episode opened with Ilana helping Abbi cover her window with saran wrap to prevent the winter air from coming through. Abbi wants to buy an expensive space heater, but is currently unemployed. Bevers eventually makes his way into the scene and has some funny banter with Ilana.
Meanwhile, Ilana is acting a bit off. She’s nervous and lying to Abbi about something, but it’s not clear what she’s up to. Ilana spots Abbi’s first grey hair and she freaks out. Abbi gets introspective and reflects on her life, saying how she thought she’d be further along than she actually is. She decides she want to pursue her passion and sell her art in front of the MoMA to buy the space heater. Ilana cheers her on, but then ditches her later to take care of something.
Turns out, Ilana’s been acting weird because she hasn’t had an orgasm in months. It’s stressing her out so much she’s going to what I can only describe as the Vagina Shaman to help her figure out what’s going on. Ilana tries to act cool, says she’s actually there because Abbi hasn’t had a orgasm and she’s trying to help her.
Nope, not the case. The Vagina Shaman, who’s played by an amazing guest star we won’t spoil for you, asks Ilana to name her lady parts. Ilana names her vulva Abbi. The shaman lady pushes Ilana to talk to “Abbi” to figure out why she’s so backed up sexually. And then it hits Ilana; turns out, she hasn’t had an orgasm since President Trump was elected.
The images and jokes that ensue after Ilana figures out the source of her dry spell are hilarious. The Trump jokes are so very Ilana and magical. You will be hunched over in your seat from laughing so hard. The show also treats Trump’s name like a curse word and it adds a whole new flavor to the show. And Ilana’s story is only one part of the show. Abbi’s mid-life crisis will also have you in tears.
We won’t give away anything else that happens in Broad City Season 4 episode 6, but Glazer and Jacobson have a lot of great content for fans. During the Q&A portion of the panel, one fan asked how Val came to life on the show.
“Well how we ‘came’ up with her,” Jacobson began, “When I was drinking in college I would drink Southern Comfort, which is disgusting. Disgusting! Me and my friend Mike would drink and I would blackout basically. And he would be like, Val’s coming out tonight. Val in the show is way more fun than Val in real life. I remember I got into a fight with a friend of mine that was staying in my apartment.
“She was in from out of town staying with me and we had gone out. We’re in the lobby, inside my front door. And she reenacted [the fight] for me the next day. And [drunk Abbi] I was like, ‘I do not live here. I don’t know what you’re saying. You don’t live in the city man. I don’t live here. Why are we in this.’ [My friend] was like, ‘This is your key. We’re in the building. You live upstairs. You gotta stop.’ And so that was my ‘real’ Val. [Show Val] sings.”
