Fans have been enjoying the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War beta, and surprisingly, Activision even extended the beta until October 20. While fans are engrossed in the new CoD multiplayer, dataminers have taken the liberty to dig into the game files to look for new data. Since Black Ops Cold War is a new game that may also introduce new content in the future, dataminers are looking for any information that they can salvage from the beta files. Interestingly, instead of finding new content data, dataminers have been presented with a funny Rickroll video.
Popular online multiplayer games like Call of Duty: Warzone, Apex Legends, Fortnite, and so on have a huge player base that is constantly waiting to see as to what their developers have in store for future events and additions. Dataminers peer into the game files and share whatever information they find within the game files, which most of the time turns out to be a future content. Most leaks for popular games come as a result of dataminers digging into game files.
Developers do take certain measures to prevent game data from being leaked, but there's only so much that one can do. However, it's funny to see that Treyarch took the opportunity and outplayed the dataminers by hiding ovbious files in plain sight that redirect to a Rickroll video.
When mining for data within the game files, dataminers encountered several code names titled "SEASON_CONFIG", "PCDEV_GODMODE", "LOOTBOXES_CONFIG", and "MTX_CONFIG". Although these codes seem to be of importance to dataminers, little did they know that these codes would redirect them to Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" single.
Even though dataminers continue to find new information regarding Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone, the prank with Black Ops Cold War goes on show that the developer now seems to have control over their files. However, this doesn't mean that dataminers and leakers will laugh the prank off and give up.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is releasing on November 13 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.
