Call Of Duty: WWII multiplayer aims to be a return to the franchise’s roots, but it also brings a ton of new content to players. In a meeting with press recapped by CharlieINTEL, we learned how Headquarters, Divisions and new maps change the game.

First up is Headquarters. Inspired by the virtual lobbies of 2014’s Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare, it’s a social space that puts up to 48 players in an area where they can compare achievements and gear while engaging in a couple of fun mini-games. In terms of what was discussed at E3, attendees were told about a live firing range where it’s possible to practice and watch others shoot. There’s also a 1v1 combat pit for two brave individuals to fight alone. While not playable at E3, it will be accessible in future betas.

When you’re not waiting in a lobby, however, Divisions are designed to change how players customize their soldiers. While previously described as a replacement for the create-a-class system, it sounds more similar to it than different. Players have four slots that are fully customizable including primary, secondary, attachments and equipment. The two new slots, Division Training and Division Skills, essentially replace perks, and they’re more closely tied to the Division you’re in. For those who want supreme freedom, however, it’s still possible to make your own class.

In other words, the name may be different, but Divisions seem to bring additional customization depth to the existing system. From our perspective, players will be gaining slots to customize rather than losing them. Also related to Divisions, it’s said that those who pre-order the game will gain access to a special Divisions Pack that contains one premium gear set for each of the five Divisions.

As far as actual multiplayer gameplay is concerned, E3 attendees were able to confirm three existing modes for the game: the new 6v6 objective based War, Team Deathmatch and Domination. The latter two modes were shown on two maps, one of which is called Pointe Du Hoc. In War, the match took place over four stages: capture an objective, build a bridge, advance to the enemy and take out their armory. Essentially as the battle goes on, the combat situations become much tighter.

While nothing’s been confirmed, we imagine the E3 suite of features plus Headquarters will likely be what’s available for the game’s first multiplayer betas. PS4 players who pre-order the game will be able to experience what Call Of Duty: WWII has to offer on the weekends of Aug. 25 and Sept. 1. The second weekend will be open to PS4 and Xbox One players, while PC beta dates will be announced soon. Both events begin around 1 p.m. EDT.

Call Of Duty: WWII comes to PS4, Xbox One and PC Nov. 3. It will be enhanced for PS4 Pro, but Xbox One X features have not been discussed.
