The Castlevania Netflix series hasn’t even been available to stream for a full day and Netflix has already confirmed a second season will be developed. This news comes from Deadline.
In addition to the news of a second season, Netflix also plans to double the number of episodes from the first season. This isn’t saying much, as the first season only has four episodes. This means there will be eight new Castlevania episodes when Season 2 is released. No release dates or launch plans have been announced as of right now.
The first season of Castlevania tells the same story as the 1990 NES game Castlevania 3: Dracula’s Curse, which acts as a prequel to the events of the original Castlevania series. It will be interesting to see if the Netflix series continues the story from the Castlevania games or if the next season will be an original story not previously explored.
If the series does follow the game’s narrative, there will need to be a new cast of characters. The first season (and third game) of Castlevania follows Trevor Belmont, whereas his ancestor Simon Belmont stars in the first two Castlevania games.
In other video game-turned animated series news, producer Adi Shankar has confirmed he is working on an anime series based on Assassin’s Creed. Shankar also served as an executive producer on Castlevania. No other details are known right now about what the Assassin’s Creed animated show will end up looking like, or what characters will be involved.
Castlevania Season 1 is now available to stream through Netflix. The series follows the only living member of the disgraced Belmont family as he tries to save medieval Eastern Europe from hordes of evil monsters controlled by Dracula himself.
