A mod for Civ 5 called Donald Trump’s America V2 will let Civilization players get a feel for the inevitable Donald Trump apocalyptic wastelands a full year in advance of their fellow world citizens.
The mod—dug up when Kotaku writer Luke Plunkett searched “Donald Trump Civ V mod lol”—adds Donald Trump to Civilization 5 ’s roster of leaders alongside historic figures like Boudicca, Alexander the Great, Darius, Queen Elizabeth, Gandhi, Genghis Khan, Haile Selassie, Hiawatha, Montezuma, Napoleon, Nebuchadnezzar, Suleiman, and George Washington.
Trump comes with his own set of perks of course, including the “Great Wall of America,” which “will keep the filthy immigrants from other civilizations out,” granting a 15% combat bonus for units in friendly territory.
Other new features described on the Donald Trump’s America Steam page include:
“Make America Great Again - Your first golden age lasts the entire game. Population unhappiness increased by 100%, gain 4.5 happiness when you found a city. Start with a free outsourced worker.”
“Border Patrol - Replaces the infantry. Lower combat strength (60 vs 70), +1 sight, +1 movement, cover 1 promotion. Combat bonus in friendly territory.”
Basically, the Donald Trump mod makes your civilization miserable and xenophobic, granting bonuses to any conflicts fought on your home turf.
The mod’s creator, Ballistic, first announced the public availability of the Trump Civ 5 mod on Reddit six months ago , posting:
“I heard you wanted a Donald Trump mod, so here's mine. I made it a few weeks ago after the first request was posted on here, and its been private since while me and my friends used it. I just saw the post and realized that I should probably make it public. This was my first foray into into civ modding, so there isn't any complex lua unfortunately.”
Almost as fun as the mod itself is the surprisingly earnest arguments that have ensued on the Civ 5 Steam page , beginning with an earnest user by the name of “Bernie Sanders.” “Is the author of this mod being sarcastic when he says “make america good”? I hope he is,” Sanders posted, opening a new discussion.
“Donald Trump” replied, posting, “Bernie Sanders is really clueless, nice guy, but he’s really clueless. He doesn’t have any strength, he’d be Putin’s and Khamenini’s [sic] doll.”
While varying levels of sarcasm are on display in the discussion, it’s an interesting insight into the political psyche of a handful of gamers. “Bernie is a commie spy,” one user wrote.
This being the realm of trolls and endless feigned apathy, the whole thread soon devolves into chaos, as “The Bern” and “Beanie Sanders” entered the fray to promote Attila the Hun and the people’s right to new beanies.
