In Take-Two Interactive ’s second quarter earnings report for fiscal year 2017, the company reported Civilization 6 has shipped 1 million copies so far.
This represents units sold to retailers, not those sold to consumers, but is still a big measure of success that breaks records for all previous Civilization games. Civ 6 only just came out on Oct. 21.
“ Civilization VI is the fastest-selling title in the history of the series and is exceeding our expectations, with sell-in already surpassing one million units,” Take-Two said in a statement to GamesBeat.
According to SteamSpy, Civilization 6 has sold 1,001,441 copies since Oct. 31, with an equally impressive number of concurrent players (ranging from 70,000 Steam users to 160,000 users).
In our review of Civ 6, we said, “ Civilization 6 is a fantastic strategy game and an instant beacon for the genre that will surely influence PC strategy games—and real-life board games—for years to come. The latest installment in Sid Meier’s Civilization series builds a whole new kind of game on the bones of Civ V , a game that it superficially shares a lot in common with. In truth, it’s in most ways a dramatic departure.”
