The Civilization 6 team has shared gameplay details for Norway, led by the last great Viking king, Harald Hardrada. Check out the video below for more details on Norway in Civ 6 :
Harald’s Leader ability is “The Thunderbolt of the North.” All his naval melee units can perform coastal raids. He also gets the Viking Longship: in addition to having the coastal raid ability, it can heal in neutral territory.
Norway’s unique unit is the Berserker, a familiar trope to many RPG players. “Norse Berserkers were intimidating warriors who fought with ravenous ferocity as they plundered enemy lands and struck down enemies without hesitation. Berserkers were driven by uncontrollable rage as they allegedly performed superhuman feats in battle, despite being mostly clad in animal skins rather than armor,” says the official page .
Pillaging costs one less movement and the Berserker gets a bonus to attack, but is more vulnerable when defending.
Norway’s unique building is the Stave Church. “The large and elaborate wooden Stave Churches were large stone cathedrals named for their unique timber corner posts. The churches once numbered in the thousands throughout north-western Europe and have since been replicated globally, but originals now exist nearly exclusively in Norway,” says the official page .
The Stave Church has all the benefits of a temple but gets an additional faith adjacency bonus from woods.
Norway is focused on its naval capabilities. Their naval units pay no cost to embark or disembark. Furthermore, once you research Shipbuilding, all naval and embarked units may move onto ocean tiles. Early access to deep water sailing means Norway gets to explore the world first, while its strong military units ensure it keeps what it takes.
