Clash Of Clans Clan Wars matchmaking will be changed significantly following this week’s maintenance break. The adjustments detailed in a new blog post, essentially intended to nerf engineered bases, are almost here.

Clan War Matchmaking
As we have mentioned recently, there have been changes to the Clan War matchmaking algorithm that have been in development for the past few weeks. Those changes will be going live with this maintenance. The implementation of these changes are intended to create a greater sense of fair matches based on your opponents’ equivalent difficulty. We will be closely monitoring its performance to make sure match equality is improved without impacting search times severely.
Cannon Cart (Builder Base)
We are including the following balance changes to the Cannon Cart:
- Movement speed increased by 33 percent
- First shot is fired after 0.4 seconds (speed increased from 1.2 seconds)
- Increase the range of Cannon Cart’s Last Stand ability by one tile
For those who missed our previous article on the subject, Clash Of Clans matchmaking is being targeted to address victories earned through what hardcore players call engineered bases. For those unfamiliar with the term, it’s a method of manipulating the system by max leveling all offensive troops stats, thereby keeping defenses low. In those circumstances the game would often select the lowest-level opponent, and that would pave the way to an easy three-star victory.
Under the rules being implemented this week, however, the matchmaking system is becoming slightly more granular. Each individual troop will be given a certain “weight value,” and those weights will be added together to form an aggregate weight score. Those with similar weight scores will be matched against one another.
In other words, if your troop levels are engineered, you’ll theoretically be matched with others who are doing the same. This measure isn’t meant to necessarily discourage certain base designs, it’s constructed to ensure that all players are matched with those who adequately reflect their skill level. Manipulating matchmaking to get easy stars won’t be tolerated.
As for that singular Builder Base update, the Cannon Cart is being buffed so that it can become a better defense against enemies. Other controversial aspects of the mode, like the Clock Tower, will remain in operation as is. No release date has been offered for the matchmaking patch, but in recent weeks maintenance has generally been completed on Fridays.
In addition to this Clan Wars update, Clash Of Clans fans might also want to pay attention to the weekly developments coming from August’s Clashiversary event. Past limited bonuses have offered one-gem resource boosts, special Battle Ram and Giant Hut troops and a new trap called the Shrink Trap. Leaks suggest something big might be coming this week as well.
Clash Of Clans is available now on Android and iOS.
