A new round of Clash Royale balance changes is on its way! Check out all the cards getting buffed or nerfed in Supercell’s October 20 update, including crazy changes to the skeleton army and the favorite "Goison" combo.
On Tuesday, Supercell announced its latest round of monthly card balance changes. The update is scheduled to drop Thursday, October 20 and while it will affect fewer cards than normal, the changes should bring renewed interest for a few less utilized cards like the skeleton army or log, while also addressing the popular Giant + Poision a.k.a. “Goison” combo dominating the upper arenas. In all, seven card will receive balance changes. As always, Supercell’s Clash Royale balance changes are made in an effort to see that every card gets its fair share of play time, while keeping the game fun and focused on strategy over brute force.
Check out all the cards expected to receive balance changes below.
Clash Royale October Balance Changes: Cards Getting Nerfed
Giant – this card will see hitpoints decreased by 5%. While the Giant saw a slight damage decrease in September, according to Supercell, that change wasn’t enough to regulate his power when combined with the Poison spell. By decreasing hitpoints ever so slightly, the company believes this will bring the “ Goison ” combo into a better balance without completely castrating our old friend, the Giant.
Poison – this card will no longer slow attackers’ movement and speed. Since Poison’s primary job is to damage a building or weaken a foe over time, slowing foe’s movement and attack speed as well made it combined with the Giant a little bit too good of a combo. The change will make poison’s functionality clearer and keep the “Goison” combo viable yet balanced.
Clash Royale October Balance Changes: Cards Getting Buffed
Elixir Collector – this card gets a mixed benefit. Cost increases to 6 but you can now gain 8 Elixir total. The Elixir collector also gets a lifetime boost of 10 sec. While we’re a little ambivalent about how much this change will increase the Elixir collector’s effectiveness, we do think the extended time for the collector is a much-needed change.
The Log – this card will roll faster and further after the update while also getting a damage boost of 9%. I would definitely call this a good change. Thus far I’ve seen the log show up very rarely in decks I battled against and it’s never made me feel any level of concern when it comes rolling out. It’ll be interesting to see how the damage change affects its usefulness.
Skeleton Army – this card sees its cost reduced to cost 3, with a loss of 5 skeletons (now only 16). Each Skeleton, however, sees a level increase to 5. I find this change interesting. I haven’t used this card for a while (Arena 5?) but I will definitely bring it back into one of my tester decks just to see how this change affects its viability.
Ice Golem – the card’s Death Damage will damage flying troops as well. This is the newest card Clash Royale has added. I expect to see a lot of tweaking for this one in the upcoming months. The balance change should also bring some bug fixes for this card as well.
Golem : the card’s Death Damage will damage flying troops as well, keeping it consistent with the Ice Golem.
