Code Vein got some prime real estate in this week’s issue of Famitsu, and the latest feature on Bandai Namco’s upcoming action RPG delivered some big news. Confirmation that the game mimics Dark Souls’ experience-as-a-currency system isn’t shocking because it’s been replicated pretty frequently in recent years. But we were pleasantly surprised to learn Code Vein will have its own job system, of sorts, when it debuts early next year.
Famitsu ’s latest look at Code Vein, summarized by Game Jouhou, covers a lot of ground. It offers some information on Nicola Karnstein, younger sister of Mia (one of the first announced NPC companions), the latest in a string of potential partners you can enlist as a support while exploring the dilapidated remnants of civilization. Bandai Namco also revealed another Blood Veil, the magical-infused weapons we’ll wield in Code Vein. Ivy is a scarf-like weapon with basic attacks that leech health from enemies and a rotating pool of counterattacks to unleash when it's used to parry. It’ll also be effective against groups of enemies.
The new Code Vein feature also revealed a protagonist-exclusive piece of equipment called a Blood Code. According to Famitsu, each Revenant has their own unique blood type (the Code) which can be recovered from fallen vampires and equipped by those with the proper equipment. It might sound like something out of Mega Man, but the magazine says the system will have more in common with a JRPG staple. Blood Codes will function similar to jobs, like Mage or Warrior, and can be used to emphasize particular skillsets and/or strategies.
