A new trailer for Code Vein emerged during the Golden Joystick Awards, joining Ni No Kuni 2 and several other titles shown during the awards show. We’re still waiting on a launch timeline for Bandai Namco’s next hardcore action-RPG. But each new look at Code Vein ’s semi-unique anime vampire aesthetic continues to be a visual treat.
New details on Code Vein have been annoyingly difficult to track down in recent months. IGN spent weeks covering the project without unearthing any game-changing information, and a number of trailers have come and gone without any major revelations. In some ways, it’s kind of nice to go into a project relatively blind, outside of a basic understanding of how combat will work. But the fact that Code Vein doesn’t seem to have a specific hook, beyond the same punishing combat that made Dark Souls a hit, is starting to give us some concern about its long term prospects and ability to distinguish itself from other Souls -like games. It’s still too soon to know about the game’s marketability. But we do wish Bandai Namco would try a bit harder to get the general public on board.
As for our latest look at Code Vein, the Golden Joystick trailer is just as light on hard data as the rest of the CV promotion we’ve seen. The 90-second preview includes a few impressions from outlets that have already seen an early build of the game. And there are appearances from several NPCs that have been used pretty sparingly in Code Vein marketing up to this point. But the focus of this week’s footage seems to be reminding fans that the next action-RPG from Bandai Namco will be more visually-stimulating than the Dark Souls trilogy.
