Developer PixelOpus has just announced an October release date for its action-adventure game Concrete Genie. The upcoming title is set to arrive exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
We first saw a sneak peek of Concrete Genie during Sony’s PlayStation Media Showcase at Paris Games Week held on October 30, 2017. Fast forward two years, and we now have a release date reveal trailer showcasing its mechanics and aesthetics. The video was uploaded to the PlayStation Access YouTube channel.
Concrete Genie tells the story of a young boy named Ash who lives in the small town of Denska. Ash mostly keeps to himself and doodles regularly in his notebook. This reservedness has made him a target for bullying, which eventually leads to the game’s events. After one bully rips apart and throws his notebook into the wind, Ash goes on a quest to find it and ends up inside a lighthouse, which is known across the town as a “haunted” location. It is here where one of his drawings named Luna comes to life and gives him a magic paintbrush. This paintbrush allows him to bring his creations to life. Ash uses this power to help overcome his bullies and bring life back to his hometown.
Concrete Genie focuses on exploration, area reclamation, and the use of the PlayStation 4 analog sticks as your painting tools. Painting will not be complicated, nor will it feel artificial to players. The resulting works of art look incredible as well, and the art design has something for everyone. Once you’re using your magic paintbrush, you are provided a series of templates as to what your brushstrokes will look like, but shaping them and placing them on your canvas (the town’s dingy walls) will be up to you.
The artsy action-adventure game is from PixelOpus, an indie developer under Sony Entertainment Interactive Studios. This goes without saying that Concrete Genie will be a PlayStation 4 exclusive. Concrete Genie is set to arrive digitally on October 8. Pre-orders will be announced soon and it will go for $29.99 for the standard edition and $39.99 for the Digital Deluxe Edition.
