The indie run-and-gun game by Studio MDHR, Cuphead, took the gaming industry by storm in 2017. Since then, things have been relatively quiet for them. They did port their game to other platforms like macOS, PlayStation 4, and Switch in the past three years. But no new game or DLC came out.
Studio MDHR announced an expansion pack titled The Delicious Last Course in June 2018. The DLC was supposed to launch in 2019 yet was delayed to 2020. Yesterday, developers announced that fans will have to wait a bit longer. The DLC is delayed again until 2021. Also, they didn’t reveal when exactly the game is coming out next year. The announcement was posted on their official Twitter handle.
Developers said the delay was on purpose for quality reasons. They need more time to make the expansion pack as best as possible. While it may have been three long years since the original game launch, we will take a delay over a bad product any day.
“In true Studio MDHR fashion, we aren’t content for this final chapter to be anything less than our best work,” the tweet read. “Throughout development, we’ve challenged ourselves to put everything we learned from making Cuphead into the quality of The Delicious Last Course’s animation, design, and music.”
The long development time is likely hit by the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.
“Meeting this standard has been extremely challenging for us amid the global pandemic that has affected so many of our fellow developers. Rather than compromise on our vision in response to COVID, we’ve made the difficult decision to push back the release of The Delicious Last Course until we are confident it will delight the Cuphead community the way we feel it should.” developers added.
In other news, there is a Netflix series called ‘The Cuphead Show’ in development. You can learn more about it over here.
