Curren$y went mainstream with Canal St Confidential. Now he’s dropping back under with The Alchemist to work on a new collab album called The Carrollton Heist. Curren$y, aka Spitta, tweeted the duo recorded the entire project in one day.
Curren$y and The Alchemist’s last record, Covert Coup in 2011, was so well received that fans anxiously anticipated a follow-up in 2012. However, the project dubbed Re-Conversationalize proved to be just a rumor. The Alchemist confirmed this in an interview with DJ Pizzo.
“I don’t know where that came from man, these internets. We didn’t start working on anything. I think they read it on Twitter and thought it was a name of an album. It was something I probably wrote when I was high. But I think you can expect more,” the California producer said.
If The Carrollton Heist is as good as Covert Coup, Curren$y’s cult fans and some new listeners he picked up this year will love the collab. The Alchemist slayed the production because even the instrumental release was fire! However, this new project will also make some of the NOLA rappers fan base happy. There were a lot of mixed feelings about Canal St. Confidential’s mainstream vibes. Features from Future, August Alsina, Lil Wayne, and Ty Dolla $ign seemed out of place paired with Curren$y’s smooth, southern flow.
No word on a release date yet but Curren$y always pumps out a steady stream of beats. Check out one of his latest songs, “Cut it Redone It” featuring Corner Boy P.
