One of the things people love about PC gaming is the ability to mod. With modding, anyone can add anything to a game. You can turn your character into another character from a separate game, or completely change how a game even runs. Unfortunately, this is not something the developers of Cyberpunk 2077 are interested in at this moment.
According to CD Projekt Red, the developers of Cyberpunk 2077 will be supporting mods in the future – and it is something they are already planning. However, this ability will not be made available during the launch of the upcoming title.
In a Cyberpunk forum thread, the studio’s global community lead, Marcin Momot, revealed that there are currently no plans to adding modding into the game. "Obviously, we would love to support the modding community in the future, but for the time being, we want to focus on releasing the game first. Hopefully, this clears things up a bit,” he added in the forum post.
Many in the PC community see it as a crime not to include modding in Cyberpunk 2077. After all, the game’s developers were a huge supporter when the community added mods to The Witcher franchise, particularly the third installment. However, CD Projekt Red only supported mods a few months after these games arrived. And although the modkit was not necessarily consistent with the tools available for the first two iterations in the series, it still managed to establish a massive and distinctive modding scene. Even more so, it helped bring some significant improvements to an already great title. As such, it is really hard to imagine a modding feature unavailable in Cyberpunk 2077.
The upcoming game is expected to be showcased at this year’s E3, but it will not be playable. As far as the release date is concerned, many are hoping to see it arrive in 2020.
Regarding the release date, there were rumors suggesting that the game might arrive later this year. However, CD Projekt Red has long silenced these speculations. With E3 fast approaching, fans are hoping to finally get an official release window. After all, the studio said that the event will be their “most important ever,” which only fuels the already burning speculation.
