November was a busy month for video game releases, and as the biggest games have now been released, all eyes have turned to the next big video game release of this year, Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red's next big game was previously scheduled to be released on November 19, after being delayed two times already. However, the game was once more delayed until December 10.
If that wasn't disappointing enough, now the developer has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will not have ray tracing support on AMD's next-gen GPUs at launch. However, there's another catch to ray tracing in Cyberpunk 2077, and it is that the game doesn't use Nvidia's proprietary ray tracing technology. Recently, CD Projekt Red revealed updated PC requirements for Cyberpunk 2077, including ray tracing settings. What was surprising to see that the ray tracing system specs did not recommend AMD's new GPUs, which support ray tracing. This led to confusion among fans, who began inquiring about the specs. In response to these inquiries, CDPR Global Community Lead Marcin Momot said that Cyberpunk 2077 will not support ray tracing on AMD GPUs at launch, "but we are working together with AMD to introduce this feature as soon as we can."
Another source of confusion that is making the rounds on the internet is why CDPR would enable ray tracing on Nvidia GPUs only, and not on AMD's new GPUs. One reason for this could be because of a CDPR marketing deal with Nvidia, but some tech YouTubers and forums believe that ray tracing should also work on AMD GPUs regardless of this exclusive deal with Nvidia. Whatever the case may be, there's no way to find that out until Cyberpunk 2077 releases on December 10.
Recently, some rumors even suggested that Cyberpunk 2077 will be delayed once again into 2021, however, CDPR was quick enough to knock that rumor out of the window and confirmed that the game will be releasing on December 10.
Cyberpunk 2077 will release on December 10 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Stadia.
