The first expansion for Darkest Dungeon , the 2D, turn-based dungeon crawler from Red Hook Studios, was formally announced this week. But it’s going to be several months before fans of the base game get their hands on Darkest Dungeon: The Crimson Court .
If you somehow missed it the first time, Darkest Dungeon was easily one of the highlights of the first half of the year, emerging in January after a lengthy journey through the Steam Early Access program. The game recently made the jump to PlayStation 4 and PS Vita , exposing a whole new audience to its torturous delight, and now Red Hook Studios is finally ready to discuss post-launch content. But it seems the studio isn’t ready to give us much more than a name for the first Darkest Dungeon expansion.
To our dismay, this week’s Darkest Dungeon: The Crimson Court announcement was about as threadbare as humanly possible. The game’s first expansion wasn’t revealed via press release, or a short teaser trailer, instead being shown to the world for the first time via artwork that tells us almost nothing about The Crimson Court . There are a trio of seemingly undead humans, which aren’t exactly a new concept for the game; however, their clothing (and the expansion’s name) suggest we could be exploring fancier hallways and chambers in the Darkest Dungeon expansion.
Darkest Dungeon: The Crimson Court is in development for PC, PS4 and PS Vita. The game’s first expansion is expected sometime in early 2017.
