In the wake of legendary musician David Bowie’s death, scores of fans are doing everything they can to honor the famed singer-songwriter. From beautifully penned letters to stirring cover songs, the world is mourning Ziggy Stardust in creative ways that the genius artist would certainly approve of. One of the tributes is being hosted by an entire city itself, New Orleans, who is throwing a parade in honor of the late Bowie.
Popular indie band Arcade Fire are clearly fans of Bowie, as evidenced by the Facebook post below, and have decided to headline the David Bowie tribute parade in New Orleans. The band will be joined by the Preservation Hall jazz band at the memorial parade. In an Instagram post, Arcade Fire’s Win Butler instructs attendees to “Dress in your best Bowie outfit or something more strange.” Given that this is New Orleans, home of Mardi Gras, big brass bands and plenty more unique characteristics, be sure to keep an eye out if you plan on attending.

“That’s the way Bowie would want us to celebrate. With theater and tradition and music. He would want people out in the street dancing,” said Ben Jaffe, creative director of the Preservation Hall. Indeed, NOLA is known for its joyous funeral processions and vibrant music and nightlife scenes, so it seems as fitting of a place as any to celebrate the life of the Thin White Duke.
The David Bowie tribute parade will take place on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 4pm in New Orleans.
