The first three entries in the Dead Rising series will return to stores later this year, Capcom confirmed on Monday night, giving those who missed out on Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2 and/or Dead Rising 2: Off The Record a chance to revisit the franchise’s origins.
Xbox One owners may be the only ones who will get to play Dead Rising 4, for the first 12 months after the game’s December 2016 debut, but it looks like PC and PlayStation 4 owners won’t have any shortage of zombies to slaughter. Capcom has confirmed plans to republish the first three games in the beloved zombie survival series, days after a complete trophy list for an unannounced PS4 port of Dead Rising was discovered by Exophase. The news comes courtesy of a short statement, provided to iDigi and a number of other outlets, confirming the leak’s authenticity.
“Capcom will be bringing Dead Rising to Xbox One, PS4 and PC,” Capcom said. “In addition, Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record will make their way onto Xbox One and PS4. We will have more news to share soon.”
As you may have noticed, Capcom’s statement is painfully devoid of any additional information about the three Dead Rising games coming to PS4 and Xbox One. For starters, we don’t have any sort of timeline, so no one knows whether or not we should expect to see the first three Dead Rising games return before the end of 2016. It’s also not clear whether or not fans can expect each to be remastered to take advantage of newer console hardware. Many had assumed the jump to PS4/Xbox One would come with improved graphics, audio, etc; however, the decision not to re-release Dead Rising 2 and Off The Record on PC suggests Capcom might not be making any changes to the versions currently available on Steam. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a bit longer for any official information from the developer/publisher.
Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Off The Record are in development for PS4, Xbox One and PC. There’s currently no word on a launch date for any of the upcoming ports.
