Today, October 1, the next major Destiny 2 update, Shadowkeep, launches alongside New Light, the new free to play version of Destiny 2 on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

According to GamesRadar, Destiny 2: Shadowkeep launches with new Exotics, activities, and some of the worst foes ever faced by the Guardians. According to developer Bungie, the expansion is just behind Forsaken in terms of scope and about as big as the Rise of Iron chapter in the original game.

On all platforms, the Digital Deluxe Edition of Shadowkeep costs $60, while the base version costs only $35. Gamers opting for the Digital Deluxe Edition get access to four Season Pass credits, as well as an emblem, Ghost shell, and Eris Morn-themed emote.

All content will be available on an a la carte basis. This means that in order to access Shadowkeep, gamers are not required to purchase any additional or previously released Destiny 2 content.

The action in the new Shadowkeep expansion is set on the Moon. Eris Morn returns to a changed moon landscape. Green cracks now cover the moon’s surface. The strange crimson Hive is controlling a huge scarlet fortress. However, according to the developer "it's not just about the Hive anymore."

Shadowkeep introduces psychological elements and the moon is now preying on Guardians’ fears. Gamers will meet ghosts of past battles. Previously defeated foes return now as Nightmares based on Eris Morn's traumas and memories.

The new Destiny 2 expansion introduces a new six-player raid set called the Garden of Salvation. The action takes place in an alternate realm called the Black Garden. Gamers familiar with the original game’s main campaign have already seen this realm built by the Vex and filled with robots and flowers. However, this time the Black Garden is the scene of a full raid set.

On top of a new raid, games have access to a new dungeon that features raid-lite mechanics, three player play, and encounter-based loot.

Among Shadowkeep’s New Exotics are a trace rifle, a sniper hand cannon, and a heavy bow. There’s also a Xenophage machine gun and a Deathbringer Exotic rocket launcher. A new gear system enables players to easily match mods and adds more stats to armor.
