Well, there weren’t many secrets left for Bungie to share by the time it’s latest Destiny live stream began on Thursday, thanks to a handful of leaks throughout the week, but we finally have official confirmation that Destiny: Rise Of Iron will make its console debut this September.

Less than a day after the Xbox Store outlined what to expect from the next Destiny expansion, and a leaked Snapchat ad confirmed Rise Of Iron ’s release date, Bungie returned to Twitch to offer a bit of context for the various bits of information floating around the web. We also got a closer look at some of the new content that will debut in the game’s fourth expansion, including the new zone (the Plaguelands) that will debut in Rise Of Iron and the updated Gjallarhorn that will be gifted to anyone who purchases the DLC. We also got a bit more of the expansion’s backstory.

As previously expected, Lord Saladin will play a major role in Destiny: Rise Of Iron. Turns out, Saladin was just one of several Iron Lords who used to rule/protect Old Russia. But most of them forced to sacrifice their lives to stop a great evil. And you can probably guess what’s coming next.

Turns out, that great evil is back and spreading some kind of techno-organic virus. It’s mutated a sprawling army of Fallen, who’ve punched through the massive wall that used to separate the Cosmodrome from the Plaguelands, and it’s up to the player to stop it. A new campaign will see the community fight its way to Felwinter Peak, which will play host to a new raid, where they’ll encounter whatever it was that claimed the lives of Saladin’s compatriots.

Bungie has confirmed a variety of other additions in Rise Of Iron, too. There will be plenty of new gear, including the aforementioned Iron Gjallarhorn, along with a new strike and a new raid. The Light cap will increase again, too; however, the Bungie has yet to decide what the new limit will be. That said, Destiny: Rise Of Iron game director Chris Barrett promised a “significant Light increase” during Thursday’s presentation. The expansion also provides a long-missing explanation for why exactly the Guardians were being asked to participate in the Iron Banner. Turns out, Lord Saladin knew the Plaguelands would be a problem one day and he thought the semi-regular competition was a perfect way to hone the skills of many Guardians without having to explain why.

Destiny: Rise Of Iron is in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The expansion will debut on September 20.
