The first trailer for Destiny: Rise Of Iron hit the web a few hours earlier than expected, apparently thanks to an early broadcast on Snapchat, and one of the most iconic weapons in the game’s armory will apparently be getting a refresh in time for the next Destiny expansion.
After a week full of leaks, we probably shouldn’t be shocked Activision and Bungie weren’t able to keep a lid on the next Destiny expansion. Between trademark applications, the need to distribute ads ahead of time and the potential for retail leaks, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to keep secrets in the video game industry. That said, we’re not sure anyone was expecting this much information to emerge ahead of Bungie’s official Destiny: Rise Of Iron live stream.
On Thursday morning, just hours before the studio was set to unveil the next Destiny expansion, the first trailer for the upcoming DLC managed to work its way onto YouTube. The video appears to have been captured on Snapchat, or at least changed hands via the video-sharing service at some point, and confirms previous rumors that Lord Saladin will play a central role in the next Destiny expansion. And it sounds like Rise Of Iron might be the biggest Destiny expansion we’ve seen in the game’s two years on the market.
Thanks to a leak on the Xbox Store, spotted by redditor rlplatek, we know that the next Destiny expansion will include a new raid, strike and social hub. Rise Of Iron will also increase the game’s Light cap again and introduce another round of new weapons and armor for Destiny players to collect and wear into battle. There will be new quests, new story missions and even a new zone, the Plaguelands, filled with a mutated version of the Fallen. There’s even going to be a new Crucible mode, along with a new batch of maps for the Destiny community to master.
Most surprisingly, Rise Of Iron will apparently make the iconic Gjallarhorn a useful part of the Destiny armor again. While we’ve yet to receive confirmation of a Year Two refresh, Bungie will apparently offer a new variant of the legendary rocket launcher, called Iron Gjallarhorn, to anyone who pre-orders a copy of Destiny: Rise Of Iron. And we can’t think of much reason why the studio would be so interested in refreshing the launcher’s visual style unless we’ll be seeing a lot more of Gjallarhorn once the next Destiny expansion heads to consoles later this year.
