After two days with Destiny, we've finally completed the single-player campaign and have officially turned our sights on the various collectibles scattered throughout the game while waiting for the first Destiny raid to go live sometime next week.
Fortunately, a number of Destiny players have already begun compiling location information for both the Dead Ghosts and Gold Chests on each of the game's three explorable planets (plus Earth's moon), making it significantly easier to find all of that extra Glimmer. Obviously, gathering 25 gold chests and 50 non-functional Ghosts isn't going to be an especially quick process, but one which we're confident any player could accomplish once they've reached the game's level cap.
We've also embedded the walk-through videos created by IGN, because we know that many of you would prefer visual aides to written descriptions of each chest's location. Happy hunting!
Earth
· Chest #1: As you might imagine, the first golden chest on Earth is one of the easiest in the game to locate. Right after starting the Restoration mission, turn right and make your way into the building directly in front of you. You'll find Chest #1 sitting on top of a desk.
· Chest #2: After grabbing the first chest, continue heading west along the river that's nearby, and you'll find the second chest near the coast. If you've already left the area, the easiest way to get back into position is by heading to the Forgotten Shore and then making your way down to the Terrestrial Complex.
· Chest #3: The third chest on Earth can be found near the path from the Forgotten Shore to the Mothyards. Just head inside the cave on your right and you should be able to spot the golden loot crate relatively easily.
· Chest #4: Chest number four can be recovered during The Dark Within, either during or after your battle with the Wizard waiting for you inside the Lunar Complex. Just hop over the crates piled up on the left-side of the room, and you'll find another gold chest just waiting to be looted.
· Chest #5: The final gold chest on Earth is pretty easy to spot, but you may have a bit of difficult escaping with both it and your life. Gold Chest #5 can be found below the raised platforms where you battle against Sepiks Prime. It's pretty easy to spot, so long as you're running around under the platforms, but don't lose track of the boss during your search for the loot.
The Moon
· Chest #1: As you might imagine, some of the routes to each chest get a bit more complicated as you progress through the Destiny campaign. The first chest on the moon can be found by traveling through the Hive temple and across the bridge that stretches towards a nearby ship. You should spot a ramp that heads a bit further down, and chest number one waiting on your right.
· Chest #2: The second chest is pretty easy to locate. Just keep an eye out for a sizable rock cropping on the left-side of the road between Archer's Line and the Hellmouth. Gold Chest number two can be found just on the other side of the rocks.
· Chest #3: From there, head back to the top of the hill directly in front of the Archer's Line spawn point. Start traveling towards the nearby dome, pivoting to face the Hive Fortress once it's in sight. Once you spot a cave, head inside and travel down the ramp found inside to find the third golden chest hidden on the moon.
· Chest #4: The fourth chest can be recovered during/after the World's Grave event from the Destiny campaign. When standing on the platform where you Ghost scans the Grave, look back towards the room's entrance and then let your vision drift down and to the right. You should see the fourth chest sitting near the water in the floor of the room.
· Chest #5: Much like the final chest on Earth, grabbing the last golden loot crate on the moon requires players to take on the horrors awaiting Guardians in the Hive's Summoning Pits. Hop down onto the lowest platform in the room, and you should find the gold chest waiting for you between two stair cases. My advice is to finish off Phogoth before going treasure hunting.
Venus
· Chest #1: Players can find Venus' first gold chest just off the road that stretches between Ishtar Academy and the Shattered Coast. When making the trip, keep your eye out for a U-shaped tunnel that heads underground. You'll find the gold chest tucked into the right side of the tunnel, sitting at the base of one of the pillars keeping the cavernous path open.
· Chest #2: The second batch of loot can be found on Campus 9, near the back of the first building encountered by players. Look for the big orange building. Once you've found the right facility, follow the catwalk that stretches around the outside of the building and you'll find the chest at the end.
· Chest #3: Chest number three can be found in Winter's Lair, sitting on a balcony that overlooks the map's central cavern. This chest requires a bit of precision jumping, after making your way up onto the balcony found on the path to The Cinders, but anyone who's spent a bit of time practicing with the lift ability should be able to make the leap from the balcony (or, rather, a narrow beam that extends from the base) to the landing where the chest rests.
· Chest #4: Possibly the easiest (and most predictable) of any gold chest location on Venus. After climbing onto the Ketch -- the docked ship seen during the Scourge of Winter mission -- make your way to the very back of the ship. You'll see the gold chest sitting on the ship's exterior just a few feet below.
· Chest #5: Make your way from the Ishtar Commons over the N/Gen Branch. Once you've arrived, head into the first enclosed office building and search the cubicles found inside. It shouldn't take you more than a minute or two to locate Venus' final gold chest.
Mars
· Chest #1: After landing in the Barrens, head over to the Scablands and you should find a Cabal outpost full of heavily-armored enemies. Check the tops of crates piled in the area, and it shouldn't take you long to find the first gold chest hidden on Mars.
· Chest #2: Your search for the planet's second gold chest begins in much the same way as the hunt for the first. Drop into the Barrens and then make your way towards the Hollows. Shortly before reaching the downtown area, you should spot an opening in the ground big enough to be explored. Gold chest number two is waiting inside.
· Chest #3: Unlike the crate arrangements of the other celestial bodies in Destiny, its Chest #3 (not #5) that's waiting inside the only Strike mission that's available on Mars. Head into the Dust Palace and you should find the planet's third gold chest sitting behind a desk inside of a room with a 3 on the door.
· Chest #4: The planet's fourth gold chest is located at the Iron Line; more specifically, inside the Legion's Keep. Once you've reached the entrance to the keep, take the walkway on your left and then hop over to the pipes forming a standing area (of sorts) in the corner of the room. Once there, look up and to your left to spot a walkway that will take you directly to Chest #4.
· Chest #5: The final gold chest from in the Destiny campaign is hidden in Tharsis Junction. Keep your eyes peeled for a Vex gate sitting behind a train, head through the small room located nearby and continue down the path until you reach chest number twenty.
