Detective Pikachu is one of the more unique games coming to the Nintendo 3DS in 2018 and the latest trailer for the Pokémon mystery game shows off some gameplay and plenty of cutscenes. The new Nintendo 3DS title is slated for release in March.
The story of Detective Pikachu follows Tim and our titular mystery-solving Pokémon in Ryme City as they look for Tim’s missing father. While in the city, they happen upon a case of rampaging Pokémon and come to suspect the two may be connected in some way. Check out the latest trailer for Detective Pikachu below.
While the new Detective Pikachu trailer offers a glimpse at gameplay and the story, the official press release from Nintendo gives a bit more detail on the characters and what players can expect from the game. But the biggest news is the inclusion of Mewtwo into the Detective Pikachu story. Here’s what the official press release says about Mewtwo and the rest of the Detective Pikachu cast.
Trouble in Ryme City! : Ryme City is a place where people and Pokémon live together. But recently, many friendly Pokémon are behaving oddly for no apparent reason. While Pikachu and his friend Tim search for Tim’s father, Harry, they unwittingly stumble into the mysterious case of the problematic Pokémon. Can they solve the mystery and also find Tim’s father? Cue the dramatic music…
The Mysterious Mewtwo : While many different Pokémon appear in Detective Pikachu , the one who seems to hold the biggest connection to the overall mystery is Mewtwo. How is Mewtwo connected to everything? And why does Mewtwo know Pikachu?
A Colorful Cast of Characters : Many charming characters roam the streets of Ryme City. These include Pablo Millan, owner of Pikachu’s favorite café; Frank Holliday, an inspector at the Ryme City Police Department; and Meiko Okamoto, a camera operator for the local TV studio. Meeting and interrogating all of these characters throughout the game is part of the fun.
Players who purchase Detective Pikachu from certain retailers (none were specified) will also receive a free download code to get a special 3DS theme based on the game. A demo of Detective Pikachu will be available in early March and all progress can be transferred over to the full game.
The Detective Pikachu amiibo, which will be available on March 23, will unlock cutscenes when tapped in the game. A combination of story content that can be access in the game but the amiibo will unlock it more quickly.
Detective Pikachu will release March 23 for Nintendo 3DS.
