In 1998, Colin McRae Rally was released for the PlayStation and Windows. As one of the first rally racing games, Colin McRae Rally was well-received by fans and critics for its gameplay. After eight installments, the Colin McRae name disappeared when the game was re-branded DiRT . The last DiRT game was in 2011 when DiRT 3 was released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows. At long last, an announcement this week confirmed the long-awaited return of DiRT.
DiRT 4 is coming to the shelves with a June 9 release date. Codemasters developed the latest installment with the help of real pros, including rally drivers Kris Meeke and Petter Solberg to dial in the handling of the cars in DiRT 4. The game will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows.
One of the big additions to DiRT 4 is an all-new mode called Your Stage. When a player chooses a location and different route parameters in this mode, the game creates a rally stage to your liking that you can eventually share with friends and have challenges with them. The best part of Your Stage is that it allows experienced players to create difficult routes while new players can create simpler routes that they can adjust over time.
In addition to Your Stage, DiRT 4 will feature five rallycross circuits in Great Britain, Sweden, Norway, France and Portugal. While those circuits will be included in DiRT 4, World Rally Cars and the World Rally Championship will not be in this installment of DiRT. Despite this one major omission, the game still has many modes and will have Group R rally cars.

- DiRT ACADEMY – Taking place at the DirtFish Rally School in Washington , USA , learn the skills, techniques and practice to become the best!
- CAREER MODE – create your driver, compete across the disciplines, gain sponsors and build your team with clear goals and rewards
- COMPETITIVE GAMING – Daily, weekly and month-long challenges against fellow players from around the world
- NEXT GENERATION OF RACENET – Live ladder, leagues and tournaments, cross-platform leaderboards, enhanced CREST telemetry system

- DAMAGE & REPAIRS – Wear and tear is faithfully recreated with an improved and realistic damage model. Damage can be repaired by hiring engineers to work in the team’s Service Area between stages but with a finite amount of time available.
