It has been fifteen years since the assassination of the Empress Jessamine Kaldwin and the kidnapping of the young heir to the throne, Emily. Corvo, the player, is the bodyguard to the Empress and blamed for her death. Now dishonored, Corvo must unravel the plot that threatens the city of Dunwall and save young Emily. You painted the city red with the blood of these would-be conspirators. Or maybe you just filled the city with a lot of unconscious bodies if you chose a non lethal playthrough… Either way, Emily was returned to the throne and ruled in peace and harmony.
Now Emily has grown and a new threat to the Empire rises. In Dishonored 2, you can play as either Emily or Corvo to deal with these threats to the crown. Many of Emily’s political enemies are meeting grisly ends. This might sound like good news, but the citizens are wondering if the crown is behind these plots. Emily and Corvo know their innocence, but clearly a larger plot is at work.
While the first game took place entirely in the decaying capital city of Dunwall, the second game takes us down to the southern rim of the Empire. Karnaca is a large city on the island of Serkonos and is overseen by the Duke Luca who is equipped with an elite guard and almost certainly is weaving webs of his own.
Meanwhile the cult of the mysterious, otherworldly ‘Outsider’ has grown since the first game. This powerful supernatural figure aided Corvo in the first game, but keeps his own council and has his own agenda. The cult of the Outsider is kept in check by the Overseers, who represent the mainline religion of the area. The Overseers work to break up the cult and confiscate any Runes or Bonecharms they find.
It will be up to Emily and Corvo to wade into the political web of Karnaca and uncover the players in the sinister plot to overthrow the crown. It’s very exciting to see a whole new area of the Empire for the second game and the addition of Emily as a playable character with her own ability set will add the replayability of a series that is already so fun to replay.
