The Division Resurgence is all set to have its closed beta this fall. It will highlight PvP modes, the competitive Conflict mode, and the Dark Zone. Today, we'll take a look at what the Dark Zone is all about.
The Dark Zone of NYC, also known as "DZ," is an area of Manhattan with higher levels of contamination, so it has been quarantined and locked down. The area is overrun by hostile factions along with ferocious enemies. Governmental groups have tried to maintain control and failed. However, they left behind a lot of hardware and gear, making the area a good source of high-end loot.
It's not going to be easy getting the loot out with other players trying to take you down. The biggest danger could come from within, so it's best to remember that even your allies could turn on you.
Session-Based
The Dark Zone offers players a session-based activity. To face whatever is inside the area, players can enter as a team with up to three other members. Those looking for a challenge can always do it solo. Regardless, you're going to be matchmade with other players, and the activity starts at the same time for everyone.
Since the contamination levels in the Dark Zone have increased greatly, masks are required at all times. The mask's filter can only keep you safe for a limited time though. If you fail to get your infected loot before the time is up, your infection level will go up faster. Keep an eye on the clock and find the best routes.
Getting the Loot
A major part of The Division experience has always been collecting and upgrading the loadout using new and improved gears and weapons. The bigger the risk, the higher the rewards.
Anything that has been in the Dark Zone for too long is considered contaminated with the Green Poison virus. To collect contaminated loot, kill enemies, take out other players, or loot crates of equipment. But loot must be decontaminated after extraction to enjoy the rewards. If you die before the extraction is complete, a portion of the loot will be dropped and can be picked up by others.
To extract the Contaminated Loot, you need an Extraction Point. After that, you have to fire a flare gun to call for an SHD helicopter. Once the helicopter arrives, it will send down two ropes: one for the Contaminated Loot and another for you.
The helicopter hovers for a short period to allow players to attach their loot. However, the rope can be cut by others during this time.
