iDigi previously reported on animation legend Don Bluth's Dragon's Lair movie, but since then, the project hasn't gotten enough funding to succeed on Kickstarter. It was taken off the site, but was quickly raising money again on Indiegogo. Now, the funding for Dragon's Lair is almost complete.
It seems Bluth and his partner Gary Goldman have learned a few lessons from their Kickstarter days. This time around, the duo plan on producing a four-minute pitch video instead of a one-minute pitch video. The team is also asking for only half of what they originally called for, with the Indiegogo becoming a success after it raises $250,000. As of this writing, the project is already at 86 percent funded, with more than $200,000 pledged.
Essentially all of the rewards and perks you could earn are the same as last time. This includes getting autographed frames of animation, issues of magazines, and even your name in the credits of the pitch video.
We had the opportunity to talk to Bluth about the Dragon's Lair Kickstarter, and what he hopes to get out of the project.
"It takes $70 Million to fund the production of an animated movie," Bluth told iDigitalTimes. "We obviously aren't looking to get that all through Kickstarter, so first we will need a dynamite script and a look at what Dragon's Lair will look like on screen. We'll fund that first, and take it from there."
The rest of our conversation with Bluth can be read here.
