DOOM will be a technical beauty, running at 60 frames per second at 1080p on all platforms. This is thanks to the new idTech 6 engine, according to a blog post from Bethesda.
“We want players to wonder how DOOM and idTech 6 games can be so visually stunning at 60 frames-per-second at 1080p on all platforms, when other titles cannot even achieve a similar look at 30 frames-per-second,” said Lead Project Programmer Billy Khan in the post. “Our goal is to be the best-looking game at 1080p at 60fps.”
The post also details other aspects of DOOM, like the SnapMap announced at E3 last year. SnapMap is a tool that will allow any player to create new DOOM levels and content. This includes new single-player, co-op, and multiplayer content.
While SnapMap is coming to DOOM, it isn’t being developed directly by id. SnapMap is a project from Escalation Studios. The team at Escalation is working so closely with id on DOOM, however, that they are physically side-by-side with each other in the id studios.
“With SnapMap, we're pushing to level up that experience of having infinite content available to players along with the capability to create, remix, and share with ease,” said Tom Mustaine, CEO of Escalation Studios.
Also revealed in the post are two new weapons, the Static Cannon and Vortex Rifle. How the weapons act wasn’t described, but Bethesda described both as being very powerful.
