In a press release, Electronic Arts’ SVP for Strategic Growth Mike Blank explained the move to make these games available on Steam, stating that “We want to make it easy to play the games you love, wherever you want to play. Delivering games to the Steam community is an important step in achieving this goal. Not only are we excited to have our games on Steam, but we look forward to bringing them even more value when our subscription becomes available in the Summer.”
The subscription mentioned is EA’s subscription-based gaming service called EA Access which, once released via Steam, will give members access to to a “broad portfolio of EA games, valuable member benefits, and discounts of full EA game purchases, expansions, and in-game items”. This is similar to the current service they have for Origin called Origin Access (either Premier or Basic). EA Access launching through Steam may mean that more games from EA’s line-up may be making their way to the platform soon.
Lastly, another classic EA title will be making its way soon to Steam. The real-time strategy and resource management game Command & Conquer Remastered will be available starting June 6.
